BMR Formula (Mifflin-St Jeor)

Male BMR = (10 × kg) + (6.25 × cm) − (5 × age) + 5
Female BMR = (10 × kg) + (6.25 × cm) − (5 × age) − 161

This is the most accurate widely-used formula. Your BMR is the calories needed just to keep your body functioning — breathing, circulation, organ function — with zero activity.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between BMR and TDEE?
BMR is calories burned at complete rest. TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure) multiplies BMR by an activity factor — sedentary to extra active — to estimate real daily calorie needs.
Can I eat only my BMR calories?
Not recommended. BMR is the bare minimum for organ function. Consistently eating only BMR calories without medical supervision can cause muscle loss and metabolic adaptation.
